Daily Portions in Genesis

This Genesis commentary is an update and revision of work the Nerd has previously published to his various blogs and his daily email list (you can sign up for the Nerd’s “Daily Portion” email list here: http://eepurl.com/bXj2Tb).

The format is simple. “Spotlight” focuses on one specific issue arising from the text, something theological and/or applicational for the reader to take away from the content of the Torah portion of the day. “Outline” gives some logical flow with an economy of words to the daily reading. “Overview” covers some background material and information that helps the reader understand the entire portion of text better.

Readers who wish to know more about the Jewish practice of dividing the Torah into weekly portions or parashot (a plural world meaning “portions,” for which the singular is parashah, “portion”) are encouraged to read this article on wikipedia.

Each heading below is a link to the commentary page containing all seven of the daily readings from each week’s parashah.
